Karla Kuskin

Was an award-winning author and illustrator of over 50 books. Her work includes picture books she both wrote and illustrated, as well as collaborations with other authors and artists. Over the course of her remarkable career, her prose and poetry brought delight to generations of young readers with her poetic, alliterative style. From her breakthrough work, "Roar and More" in 1956, to many other beloved titles like “James And The Rain”, "The Philharmonic Gets Dressed", and "So, What's It Like To Be A Cat?" Kuskin's work was characterized by wit, whimsy, and a profound understanding of childhood.

A recipient of the NCTE Poetry award, Kuskin was not only a master of her craft but also known as an exemplar of the arts, and a passionate advocate for encouraging children to find their own creative voices through poetry and art.
